Nnamdi Azikiwe University was formed as an offshoot of the defunct Anambra State Technology University (ASUTECH). ASUTECH, established by Law No. 7 of 30 July 1980, operated as a multi-campus university with campuses in Abakiliki, Enugu, Awka and Nnewi by the government of the old Anambra.
