MentorWhen you apply for a visa to Canada, you must pay an application fee and any other fees required for processing. These fees are also called embassy fees for Canada, but the amount depends on what type of visa you are applying for.
Permanent Resident Visa Fees
Permanent residency fees vary from program to program depending on what immigration you are applying for. However, a Right of Permanent Resident Fees (RPRF) is paid upon approval of the application. Regardless of the immigration you apply for, this fee must be paid. In other words, this fee is non-refundable. However, it can be refunded to you if you withdraw your application or the government denies it. The RPRF does not apply to the following applications;
- Sponsorship applications for adopted children;
- Dependent children of the sponsor or applicant;
- Applications for sponsorship of an orphaned sister, brother, nephew, or niece;
- Protected persons.
However, the fee is $490.
There are six types of fees (see below);
Business immigration fees.
These are divided into three groups and the fees apply to all three;
- Self-employed
- Quebec Business Immigration
- Business Start-Up Visa.
The fee for applying for permanent residency is $1540 (this includes the RPRF of $490). However, without the RPRF, it costs $1050. If you are applying for your spouse/domestic partner, it costs $825 without the RPRF. For dependent children, the fee is also $225.
Note: Applications for certain provincial immigration programs may be subject to additional processing fees as determined by the provincial immigration office.
Economic Immigration Fees.
These fees apply to;
- Atlantic Immigration Pilot;
- Caregivers;
- Canadian Experience Class;
- Federal Skilled Trades;
- Federal Skilled Workers;
- Selected Quebec Skilled Workers;
- Provincial Nominee;
- Express Entry.
The fee to apply for permanent residency is $1040 (this includes $490 for the RPRF). However, without the RPRF, the fee is $550. If you are applying for your spouse/domestic partner, without the RPRF, the fee is $550. For dependent children, the fee is $150.

Humanitarian and Compassionate Immigration Fees.
The fee for applying for permanent residence is $1040 (this includes the RPRF of $490). However, without the RPRF, the fee is $550. If you are applying for your spouse/domestic partner, the fee is $550 without the RPRF. For dependent children, the fee is $150.
Fees for protected persons
The fee to apply for permanent residency is $550. If applying for a spouse/common law partner, the fee is $550. For dependent children, the fee is $150.
Fees for residence permit holders
The fee for applying for permanent residency is $815 (this includes the RPRF of $490). However, without the RPRF, it costs $325.
Permanent Resident Card Fees
If you obtain permanent residency, you must have a permanent resident card. This card will only be sent to you at an address in Canada, not an international address. It costs $50.
Fees for a temporary residence permit
Similar to how permanent residency processing fees vary from program to program, temporary residency fees also vary depending on the type of visa. They are issued to international visitors to Canada. There are 5 types of visa fees, which are explained below;
Visitor Visa Fee
The application for a visitor visa (including super visa) for single or multiple entry costs $100 per person. For a family of 5 (who must apply at the same time and have dependent children under the age of 22), the fee for single or multiple entry is $500. However, all applications must be submitted at the same time. However, renewal costs $100 per person. Restoration of the application costs $200.
Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) Fees.
Visa-exempt travelers who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents must pay a $7 eTA fee. However, this does not guarantee entry into Canada.
Work Permit Fees
Work permit applications cost $155 per person (including renewal applications). An artist who wishes to apply for three or more must apply at the same time, which costs $465. However, permit reissuance costs $355. Open work permits cost $100 per person.
Fees for study permits
Students who want to further their education in Canada have to pay some fees. Study permit costs $150 per person, and permit reissuance costs $350. Some schools or universities in Canada offer scholarships for students that cover transportation and other expenses.
Fees for biometrics
Each person submitting the following applications must include fingerprints and a photograph. If the Embassy asks you to submit your biometrics, they are included in the cost of your Canada visa.
The fee for biometrics is $85 per person, and $170 for a family of two or more. For a group of artists, the fee is $255.
