The University Of Sheffield
The University of Sheffield is one of the best 13 public research universities to attend in the United Kingdom and 75 in the world according to QS World University Ranking(2020).
It is located in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. Sheffield University has five academic faculties with multiple departments. It has about 20,000 undergraduates in 2017.
If you are looking to get admission in this university, you are in luck because it accepts WAEC results. You will need to get a C6 and above in English to escape taking an English requirement test such as IELTS. However, some departments will require you to present the IELTS so it is of benefit to have it before applying.
Also, you must apply early to reserve a space for yourself in the university as the demand for undergraduate degrees is usually high.
The University Of Bradford
According to the University administration, 94% of their 2017 graduates got employment within six months of graduation. They have also invested millions of pounds to ensure their students learn from world-class facilities while also providing them with academic and industry experts to learn.
Students from foreign countries make up 15% of Bradford University students(2019). Luckily, you can use your WAEC result to apply for entry into their foundation year and undergraduate degree programs.
Applicants would need at least a c6 in 5 subjects (excluding native languages and vocational subjects) to be considered for entry into its foundation program.
The university warns students that meeting grade requirements does not guarantee admission but at least it puts you up for consideration.
Southampton University
Southampton University has different requirements for its foundation and undergraduate degree programmes. If you are taking foundation courses to progress to undergraduate programmes in social science, humanities, management, or arts, you will need to have C6 and in at least five subjects. For a Management degree, economics, or finance, you will need at least a B3 in Maths.
If you are applying for an Engineering or science foundation program, you must have at least a B3 in 5 subjects or 300 in JAMB and C4 in five relevant subjects if you are Nigerian. However, note that the science foundation year does not progress into medicine.
To get into the undergraduate degree, you will need a recognized foundation year programme, high grades in the UK A level, and 28-38 points in the International Baccalaureate. The University Of Edinburgh
Applicants with WAEC result seeking entry to the university must complete a foundation program, without this, they cannot gain admission to study an undergraduate degree.
But if you have your GCE A level, the International Baccalaureate, and SAT or AP, you can be eligible to apply for direct entry.
However, if you want to apply to their College of Science and Technology, you can use your WAEC results but they will require you to pass their international admission test with B grade and above.
They do not accept WAEC English results for their English language requirement which means you will also need the IELTS, TOEFL, or other English qualification certificates to prove your English language speaking proficiency.
Oxford University
Oxford University is a highly competitive university where college tutors had to consider 20,000 applications for 3,250 spots in 2018. It accepts WAEC results but unfortunately, WAEC results alone would not make a competitive application for students. You will need to have any of the following qualifications to improve your chances for admission:
- A-levels
- Access courses
- Applied General qualifications
- Extended projects
- Foundation courses and degrees
- GCSEs
- Higher National Diploma or Certificate (HND or HNC)
- International Baccalaureate, etc.

Glasgow University
Glasgow prides itself as one of the top universities in the world. They promise to offer applicants a word-class degree to make them competitive students anywhere in the world.
To get considered for the first year in Glasgow with your WAEC results, you must have all As and Bs. If you don’t have the required grades, you can choose other paths to be admitted into the university like an access programme, a recognized foundation programme, GCE A Level or International Baccalaureate. You can also try their pre-entry programme at Glasgow International College.
Manchester University
Manchester Universities has some world’s innovative technologies to make learning easier for its students, be it BA or BSC programme. It is one of the recognized universities in the world with high-quality teaching and research. Here you will find various undergraduate courses to choose that will help your career path.
However, applicants with WASSCE results who wish to study in Manchester will need to go through their foundation program first. There is no direct entry with your results. But to get into the foundation year, you must have a minimum of grade B2 in at least five relevant subjects related to your chosen course.
If you do not want to go through their foundation programme, you’ll need qualifications like three GCE A-Levels, International Baccalaureate, ND (Upper Credit), and HND (Upper Credit).
University Of East Anglia
This university is another place where you can get a quality education. They accept the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE/WAEC) results for their foundation programme but not the undergraduate degree programme.

The University Of Plymouth
Plymouth University is one of the topmost universities in the U.K so any student planning to study abroad should be considering applying to this university. It is the top second university in the U.K. and 86th in the world according to the 2018 Times higher education young university ranking. It is also the first university to get the Social Enterprise Mark awards.
You can get into this university’s foundation programme but not the undergraduate programme with your WAEC result. You can enroll for the foundation programme at their partner college, University of Plymouth International College (UPIC). For their English language requirements, they recognize your WAEC English results or alternatives such as NECO or IELTS.
The University Of Greenwich
Established in 1890 as Woolwich Polytechnic which was the second in the UK, Greenwich University is now one of the top universities in the world. It is located on the bank of River Thames in London and Chatham Maritime in Kent.
